What Will My Scars Look Like After Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Deciding whether to undergo a cosmetic procedure, such as tummy tuck surgery, requires a great deal of research and preparation. In addition to wondering about recovery times, benefits, and the cost of a tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, you may also be curious about how the scars will appear once you’ve healed. Will they be big? Will people notice them? Can you cover them with clothing? These are some of the potential questions you may have that our skilled plastic surgeon, Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, can answer for you.
In most tummy tuck surgeries, an incision will be made low, from one side of the hip to the other. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani strives to place this incision as low as possible, and most patients find that the resulting scar can be easily hidden beneath underwear and swimwear. This typically allows you to feel comfortable in a wide variety of garments, especially since you will have achieved a firmer, more youthful-looking appearance. As you heal, your scar should lighten and become less noticeable. However, the scar will never completely disappear. If desired, you may apply some over-the-counter topical treatments to help reduce the appearance of the scar, and you can expect the full results of the surgery to be visible after one year.
Every patient’s treatment plan will be unique, and Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani will discuss the placement of your incision based on your individual needs and goals during the initial consultation. He will also answer any questions and address any concerns during this meeting, helping to ensure you will be comfortable and well-informed prior to the procedure.
